School Watch - Outline.

School Watch is administered by the South Australia Police in partnership with the Department of Education and Children's Services (DECS). School Watch is part of the DECS School Care program which is responsible for the oversight and corporate management of all school safety and security issues. All Pre-, Primary and Secondary Schools in South Australia, over 1400 institutions, are automatically members of the School Watch program.

School Watch has a dual application. The program aims at assisting schools to improve the security of their premises and building resilience against damage, theft and other similar crimes through training and the supply of timely and accurate information to school administrators.

The second, consequential application is the flow on safety aspects for staff, students and visitors to the schools. The local administration of School Watch can be highly collaborative with input from school management, staff, community representatives and students.

Strategic Focus of School Watch

The strategic focus of School Watch shall be the enhancement of community safety through the problem solving approach to crime and disorder affecting schools and other educational institutions.
